Amazing Asphalt Plant Equipment

Posted in Personification on March 21st, 2010

Nothing amazes me more than watching a street being paved. The whole process of digging up old asphalt and replacing it with a new one, resulting to an even, wider street just keeps me spellbound.

The equipment used to complete the whole process is something you see everyday. Not too many people know what they are called and what their specific functions are. From start to finish, I have familiarized myself with asphalt plant equipment. I will share to you the wonderful process of how modern roads come into shape.

Old asphalt is dug up with the use of drills. Chunks of the road are cut into smaller pieces with the use of saws. After being cut into smaller chunks, these pieces are loaded into a dump truck with the use of backhoes and taken to an asphalt milling plant. The asphalt milling machine is the heart of these plants. Here old asphalt is ground up into finer pieces, mixed with chemicals and recycled into new asphalt. New asphalt is taken back to the location site. With the use of skid steers and asphalt pavers, the new asphalt is evened out onto the street. The whole procedure can take days to finish. The result is always a brand new street that is so pleasing to the sight.
